Hello Ernie,

You looked impressive with your photos in toga. You must be very proud of your achievements. Let me congratulate and wish you the best before I have my say with your opinion on Gloria's Sona.

You must have been very focused on your study when Gloria and her supporters laid out the scenario in getting rid of Estrada from Malacanang. Or, maybe not...since you must be a voracious reader...and in both Pilipino and English. With your stated questions I gather you already considered the growing strength of peso as the result of GMA's proclaimed and well-heralded rosy predictions of the Philippine economy based on her economic policies as carried out by her hand-picked allies who are considered as economists like herself. Apparently many Filipinos considered the growing strength of peso as a sign of economic improvement in the country. There are, however, many economists who are questioning the value of increasing peso to an economy like the Philippines, which are trying to bolster its market to the world. China's reason why it could sell its locally manufactured goods in the international market very cheaply is because of its rmb is not allowed to rise ahead of USA dollar..., for which American economists are complaining about China. They claim China is unfair in their trade practices because they could not sell US goods as cheaply as China can sell its exports to United States.

So why should the Filipinos be happy with a rising peso when the Filipinos' remittances are getting lower than previously, say from 55 pesos to just about 45 pesos to a dollar now? Will that strengthen the buying power of the local people or weaken it? The only groups benefiting from a rising value of the pesos are the money changers and corporations and big manufacturers that are globally owned, like Citibank and not a scratch on the pocket books of the rich since most of them maintain foreign portfolios in USA dollar, not in peso. A rising peso is not advantageous to the local people specially those who are now getting peso equivalents of what are being sent to them 10 pesos lesser. And the subtrahend is increasing as Gloria is able to sell Philippines' property to foreigners and private investors because these capitalists will usually put up a one big shot of down-payment, which usually will be allotted and be dispersed first to the private cronies of Gloria, before the Philippine coffer gets its share. This is a one sure way of putting more of the profits in the hands of the foreign capitalists and private investors while the Filipinos will forever work for a pittance, the reasons why foreigners like to come into the Philippines in the first place. And with the increasing dictatorial power, which nobody can’t seem to stop, eventually Filipinos will labor like the Chinese workers without the benefits of ever improving their lot, only the middle managements, “inglis spokening” Chinese will feel the benefits of their rising economy just as in the Philippines. The ratio of the poor Chinese to the well-off is tipped so ever more against their poor, worse than in the Philippines because of the sheer number of their population.

The OFW remittances, the continued decrease in dollars’ value, and the non-let up selling of the Philippines' public institutions...peoples' property, to private foreign capitalists are like adrenalin shot at her economic arms. They provide a quick fix she needs to shore up her image and justify her grab of the presidential power from Estrada and now, practicing it almost akin to a dictator because she really did grab that power without authority from the people and now, by patronage, she is positioning all those whose allegiance to her are without question. Filipinos are quick to learn, and collaboration and condoning a liar to lead them is compared to bamboos that know how to bend in order to survive, rather than as an issue of ethics and moral values. This, however, is like a boomerang. Righteousness will never have a chance. If Gloria can get away with what she did, then, they too can lie and cheat and pretend nothing bad was committed. Watch how lawless the country is turning to be….killers are roaming and killing with impunity. And no one is getting caught.

The struggling economy of the Philippines will never get any better under such band-aid approach by Gloria and her team for lack of attention to the country's basic economic infrastructures like education, development of stronger export manufacturing by local people, building more sources of safe drinking water, electricity, prevention of floods and natural calamities, and investing (by Filipinos) in oil drilling themselves, without inviting foreigners to do them for the country. Alleged as a cheater and a liar, she's not even in a position to lead the country and inspire the country to be upright and really follow the law. She broke the law and still is trying to get away with the most heinous allegation, the condoning of extrajudicial killings of local community leaders who were against her administration.

Maybe you have read about how Gloria is positioning her closest relatives to head the lucrative committees of the Senate and the House that control the management of the country's natural wealth and resources like mining and the drilling of oil, and the overseeing of lumbering and energy of the country. Well, the Filipinos are in for a good show...abangan ang mga susunod, eka nga nila.

Can you write in Pilipino as well? (just a thought)
